Module Feature

3BSE074057R1 is the part number of ABB DIS880 high integrity digital input module under Select I/O family, compatible with ABB Ability System 800xA DCS platform.

It is single-channel granular design, supports 2-wire, 3-wire and external powered 4-wire field devices, including dry contact and proximity sensors. It is certified to IEC61508 SIL3, suitable for safety instrumented system signal acquisition. Built-in SOE sequence of event high precision time stamp function for accident event tracing. It supports hot-swap replacement, channel current limiting and short-circuit protection, galvanic isolation for heavy EMC environment. It can be configured for redundant application, widely stocked as maintenance spare for petrochemical, power plant and oil & gas SIS safety cabinet.

Working principle

The module detects the on-off status of field safety contact or sensor signal.

After signal conditioning and isolation, the status and high precision time stamp data are transmitted to 800xA controller via Select I/O Ethernet bus. The continuous channel diagnosis circuit monitors wiring open, short and signal abnormality, uploads diagnostic alarm to controller and HMI. When dangerous fault is detected, the module reports fault status for safety logic response.

Onboard components

Bus communication transceiver, safety logic CPU, galvanic isolation optocoupler, signal conditioning circuit, SOE timestamp unit, channel fault detection circuit, status LED array, terminal block and coated PCB.

Installation

Lock the safety loop and follow SIS work procedure before replacement. Confirm field wiring and sensor type, download safety configuration, test signal capture, SOE timestamp and channel fault detection function after commissioning.

Diagnostic

No status change: Field contact failure, wiring open, wrong signal definition. Trouble alarm: Channel short circuit, overcurrent, hardware fault. Offline fault: Communication loss, backplane contact poor.
