System compatibility
Compatibility description: M.1017.3770 belongs to Giddings & Lewis PiC900 MMC motion family. Compatible with PiC900 CPU, analog Centurion servo drives and G&L XSM/FSM series servo motors. Widely fitted on heavy G&L horizontal boring mills.
Function
Function description: M.1017.3770 is MMC four-axis analog motion control unit manufactured by Giddings & Lewis. It performs synchronized closed-loop servo control for up to four machine axes. It receives motion instructions from PiC900 main controller, calculates real-time axis position error, outputs ±10V analog speed commands to analog servo amplifiers, and collects encoder feedback signals. The onboard backup battery saves servo tuning parameters during power interruption. It is legacy multi-axis motion spare for heavy G&L CNC boring mills.
Installation
Installation steps: Follow lockout/tagout safety procedure before installation. Cut off rack +5V backplane power. Insert M.1017.3770 module into PiC900 rack slot and lock retainer. Inspect backup battery condition. Wire shielded analog command cables and differential encoder cables. Configure axis parameters and tune servo gains via PiCPro. Run self-test and verify axis jog, homing and synchronized multi-axis motion.
Interface
Interface list: PiC900 backplane gold finger connector, analog screw terminal block, multi-channel encoder ports,on-board OK / RUN / AXIS FAULT / FAULT LED indicators for Giddings & Lewis M.1017.3770.
Diagnostic
Troubleshooting: AXIS FAULT: Encoder signal missing, mechanical overload or axis tracking error exceeds limit. FAULT LED lit: Backplane communication failure, analog output short circuit or onboard battery failure. Intermittent axis shake: Poor cable shielding, ground loop interference or improperly tuned servo parameters.
