Module Feature

MWI6254LEA is a 4-pole drawout air circuit breaker from Eaton Magnum DS series.

It adopts double-wide frame structure with 2500A frame rating. It can be matched with Digitrip 1150 / 520M electronic trip unit, supporting overload, short-circuit and earth fault protection, metering and alarm functions. It has a spring charging operating mechanism and mechanical/electrical interlock device to prevent mis-operation during racking. It is widely used in power plant auxiliary power cabinets, oil & gas main distribution rooms and large industrial power centre switchgears for spare replacement and system upgrade.

Working principle

Current transformers collect three-phase and neutral current signals and send data to the Digitrip trip unit.

When the monitored current exceeds the set threshold, the trip unit triggers the release mechanism to separate the main contacts and cut off the fault circuit. It records fault current, fault type and occurrence time, and supports data uploading to power monitoring system through optional communication module.

Onboard components

Main contact assembly, arc extinguishing chamber, spring operating mechanism, CT set, Digitrip trip unit, auxiliary contact block, drawout carriage, racking interlock, status indicator and optional communication board.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power supply, spring charged status, fault trip alarm and communication link status.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects trip unit power loss, CT circuit failure, internal over-temperature and communication interruption. Fault information and event logs can be viewed on the local trip unit display or Eaton Power Xpert software.

Programming software

Eaton Power Xpert Commissioning Tool, used for protection setting, metering configuration, fault record analysis and firmware upgrade.

Installation

Install the breaker into matched Magnum DS drawout chassis. Check primary bus bolt torque, test mechanical interlock, spring charging and protection trip function before energizing.

Diagnostic

False tripping: Improper protection setting, CT wiring error or transient interference. Refusal to close: Discharged spring, loss of control power or interlock locked. Communication offline: Damaged cable or inconsistent network configuration.
