GE 269-120N-HI 269 Plus Motor Management Relay Unit

Module Feature

269-120N-HI belongs to GE 269 Plus motor protection relay family.

It is dedicated for low voltage three-phase induction motor protection and monitoring. It supports phase overload, locked rotor, jam protection, underload, phase loss, phase unbalance, over/undervoltage. The suffix HI stands for high impedance earth fault function, suitable for high resistance grounding system. It accepts RTD inputs for stator bearing temperature monitoring, configurable DI/DO relay outputs, local LCD display, Modbus RTU communication. This legacy relay is widely stocked as spare for pump, fan and compressor MCC bucket.

Working principle

The relay samples three-phase current, voltage and RTD temperature signals continuously.

Internal protection algorithm compares measured values against user settings. When fault condition is satisfied, it issues trip signal to motor contactor and latches alarm. High impedance earth fault function detects small ground leakage current in high-resistance grounded network to avoid nuisance tripping. It stores fault records, event logs and thermal capacity data, uploads real-time data to SCADA via Modbus.

Onboard components

Current and voltage acquisition board, main protection CPU, RTD interface, binary input circuit, output relay bank, Modbus communication chip, LCD HMI, status LED array, terminal block and metal panel housing.

LED indicators

Front LCD displays motor current, thermal capacity, temperature, fault codes and event records. LED indicators: Power, Run, Trip, Alarm, Comm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects CT open, RTD break/shorted, internal electronics failure, supply loss and communication error. Parameter setting and fault analysis are completed by GE 269 Setup software.

Programming software269 Setup, used for protection curve setup, RTD configuration, Modbus address assignment, fault log download and motor thermal model tuning.

Installation

Isolate control power and CT circuit before replacement.

Verify CT/VT polarity and ratio, wire RTD and control I/O, download protection settings, test trip function and Modbus communication after commissioning.

Diagnostic

Overload trip: Motor thermal accumulation, incorrect thermal curve. Earth fault nuisance trip: HI ground fault threshold set too low. RTD fault: Sensor open or short circuit. Communication offline: RS485 wiring error, baud rate mismatch.
