Function

Function description: AE LB 382C is optical read head manufactured by HEIDENHAIN. It reads the incremental grating on LB382C steel measuring tape and generates sine/cosine analog signals. Designed for very long machine axis travels up to 30 meters. Metal housing protects internal optical components from vibration, dust and oil mist. It needs homing after power-up to capture reference mark for absolute axis reference. It is legacy linear scale scanning head spare for heavy CNC boring mills.

Installation

Installation steps: Follow lockout/tagout safety procedure before installation. Cut off encoder 5VDC power. Mount AE LB382C read head on slide carriage, adjust air gap and parallelism against LB382C scale housing. Connect shielded encoder cable to interpolation unit or CNC axis board. Restore power, verify POWER and SIG LED indicators, run encoder diagnostic and check position counting.

Diagnostic
