Function

Function description: ROD 450 is incremental rotary encoder manufactured by HEIDENHAIN. It is mounted on spindle end through flexible coupling. The optical grating disc generates high precision sine and cosine incremental signals, delivering spindle speed and angular position data to CNC controller. The metal housing protects internal optical components from workshop dust, coolant and oil mist. Reference mark pulse enables spindle orientation homing after power cycle. It is legacy spindle position measuring spare for heavy CNC boring mills.

Installation

Installation steps: Follow lockout/tagout safety procedure before installation. Cut off encoder 5VDC control power. Mount encoder on spindle end, install flexible coupling and adjust concentricity. Connect shielded encoder cable to HEIDENHAIN EXE interpolation unit or CNC axis control board. Restore power, verify POWER and SIG LED indicators, run encoder diagnostic and check spindle speed and position reading.
