Products Description
HEIDENHAIN LIDA48 Scanning Head

Technical Specifications
Model: LIDA48 (AK LIDA48)
Brand: HEIDENHAIN
Product Type: Incremental exposed linear encoder scanning head for LIDA400 series scale tape
Module Feature:
Function: HEIDENHAIN LIDA48 scanning head is the readout component for LIDA400 series exposed linear encoder. It scans METALLUR steel scale tape or glass/glass-ceramic grating, outputs 1Vpp sine/cosine incremental signals for linear position and speed measurement. Integrated HSP1.0 ASIC stabilizes signal amplitude under slight contamination. Built-in active reference mark and optional magnetic limit switches. Max traversing speed up to 480 m/min. Widely used on heavy horizontal boring mills, gantry machines and high-speed direct-drive feed axes.
Measuring principle: Incremental optical scanning Grating pitch: 20 μm Output Signal: 1 Vpp sine/cosine incremental signals Cutoff frequency: 360 kHz Onboard components: Optical scanning assembly, HSP1.0 signal processing ASIC, multi-color signal LED, metal housing, M23 12-pin connector
LED indicators: SIG, REF, FAULT diagnostic lights
Hardware self-diagnosis: Optical signal amplitude monitoring, reference mark detection, contamination warning
Programming software: HEIDENHAIN diagnostic software for signal amplitude check and tuning

System compatibility
Compatibility description: LIDA48 belongs to HEIDENHAIN LIDA400 exposed linear encoder family, 1Vpp output. Compatible with HEIDENHAIN EXE interpolation units. Suitable for Fives Giddings & Lewis PIC900 CNC heavy boring mill feed axis.
Function
Function description: LIDA48 is incremental scanning head manufactured by HEIDENHAIN. It reads the optical grating of exposed scale tape and converts position movement into analog sinusoidal signals. HSP1.0 chip automatically compensates signal attenuation caused by dust. Reference mark signal is required for axis homing after power-up. The exposed design supports ultra-long measuring stroke up to 30 meters with steel tape. It is high precision linear measuring spare for heavy CNC boring mills.
Installation
Installation steps: Follow lockout/tagout safety procedure before installation. Cut off encoder 5VDC power. Mount scale tape parallel to travel axis. Install LIDA48 scanning head on slide carriage, adjust scanning gap and parallelism. Connect shielded M23 cable to interpolation unit. Restore power, verify SIG LED, run signal amplitude test and axis homing calibration.
Interface
Interface list: M23 12-pin flange connector, 5VDC power and 1Vpp signal terminals,on-board SIG / REF / FAULT LED indicators for HEIDENHAIN LIDA48.
Diagnostic
Troubleshooting: No position reading: Check 5V supply, cable breakage or M23 pin damage. FAULT LED lit: Low signal amplitude, scale contamination or read head misalignment. Intermittent position jump: Vibration, improper scanning gap or grating surface dirt.
