Hitachi Energy REB650 Busbar Protection IED Unit

Module Feature

REB650 belongs to Hitachi Energy Relion 650 protection series.

It adopts high impedance differential principle, supports up to three independent 3-phase protection zones. Besides busbar protection, it can be configured for generator, shunt reactor, autotransformer and capacitor bank differential protection. It integrates breaker failure protection, disturbance recorder and IEC61850 / GOOSE communication, widely used for distribution and sub-transmission substation.

Working principle

The IED collects current signals from all incoming and outgoing feeders on the busbar.

When internal fault occurs, differential current rises above threshold and triggers fast trip command to isolate the fault zone. It records fault waveform, fault type and time stamp, and uploads running data and alarm events to substation SCADA system.

Onboard components

Main processing board, analog CT sampling module, Ethernet communication card, local HMI panel, binary input/output matrix, DC power supply circuit.

LED indicators

Front LEDs display power status, running state, trip indication and communication fault alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Continuous monitoring detects CT circuit break, power supply anomaly, internal hardware error and communication interruption, alarm information displays on local HMI.

Programming software

Hitachi Energy PCM600, used for protection setting, logic configuration, fault waveform reading and firmware upgrade.

Installation

Install relay inside protection panel, connect CT wiring, DC auxiliary supply and network cable.

Set differential parameters, zone configuration and tripping logic, perform stability and trip test before commissioning.

Diagnostic

Differential alarm: Wrong CT polarity, open CT circuit or unstable communication.

Breaker failure trip: Circuit breaker fails to open after trip signal.
