Honeywell 514-9088 UCN Interface Board Unit

Module Feature

514-9088 is Honeywell UCN universal control network interface board for classic TDC3000 DCS platform.

It acts as communication gateway between controller and UCN field bus, transmits process data, control commands and diagnostic information. It supports hot swap without rack power down, built-in bus short circuit protection and signal isolation. This is an obsolete legacy part, widely stocked as emergency maintenance spare for refinery, chemical and power plants still running TDC3000 control system.

Working principle

The module receives parallel internal bus data from controller and converts into differential UCN serial signal.

It handles UCN bus arbitration, data framing, error checking and retransmission. It continuously monitors bus noise, cable fault and communication timeout, sends fault alarm to operator station once abnormality detected. It supports redundant network configuration to improve UCN communication reliability.

Onboard components

Bus transceiver chip, protocol processing FPGA, isolation transformer, ESD protection circuit, status LED array, backplane connector and coated PCB board.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power, UCN link active, data transmit/receive and communication fault alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects bus open/short, signal attenuation, communication timeout, internal power fault and hardware failure. Configuration and fault diagnosis are completed by Honeywell Station GUS engineering software.

Installation

Isolate rack power before replacement, hot swap only allowed following Honeywell UCN maintenance procedure.

Insert module into correct coded slot, check UCN twinax cable termination, set node address, download network configuration and test bus communication after commissioning.

TDC3000 backplane interface, twinax UCN bus coaxial signal port.

Diagnostic

Link fault alarm: Twinax cable break, terminator missing or bus short circuit. Intermittent communication: Cable aging, grounding problem or bus overload. Module offline: Backplane power loss, slot damage or node address conflict.
