Module Feature

IOCHAS-0001R is Honeywell Safety Manager / FSC series redundant I/O chassis.

It is equipped with dedicated redundant backplane IOB-0001R, supports up to 9 pairs of redundant I/O modules, realizes dual redundant hot backup I/O architecture for safety instrument system. It adopts standard 19-inch 4U rack installation, provides distributed power supply bus and safety bus signal routing for all inserted I/O packs. It supports hot-swap of individual I/O modules without shutting down the whole chassis. This chassis does not include I/O boards or FTA terminal assemblies, which need to be purchased separately. It belongs to legacy discontinued hardware, widely stocked as maintenance spare for petrochemical and power plant SIS safety cabinet.

Working principle

The backplane inside chassis distributes DC power and safety bus signal to each slot.

Redundant I/O modules in paired slots execute identical safety logic, and cross-compare channel data through the backplane. When one I/O pack fails, the standby pack automatically takes over control to maintain safety function. All field safety signals pass through the backplane to communicate with Safety Manager controller, and trigger emergency trip when hazardous condition occurs.

Onboard components

Metal reinforced rack housing, redundant IOB-0001R backplane board, power distribution bus bar, safety signal routing circuit, slot status LED array, terminal power connector and locking hardware.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate chassis power status, backplane health, slot active and bus fault alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in backplane supervision detects power loss, bus short, slot communication anomaly and backplane failure. Fault diagnosis and system configuration are completed by Honeywell Safety Builder software.

Programming software

Safety Builder, used for SIS logic configuration, I/O point mapping, safety program download and chassis fault diagnosis.

Installation

Power off safety cabinet before replacement.

Fix chassis on rack securely, check backplane and power wiring, insert matched redundant IOB modules, download safety logic and test redundant switchover function.

Interface

Redundant safety bus interface, DC power input terminal, slot edge connector for I/O module, FTA matching signal interface.

Diagnostic

Chassis power fault: Power supply burnout, fuse blown or wiring loose. I/O communication lost: Backplane circuit damage, bus termination error or incompatible module. Redundancy switchover failure: Backplane cross-link fault or mismatched module firmware.
