Module Feature

WHA-GW-F2D2-0-AS-Z2-ETH is a protocol gateway and network manager from Pepperl+Fuchs for WirelessHART instrument networks.

It manages a WirelessHART wireless network based on IEEE 802.15.4, supporting a maximum of 250 field devices. It converts WirelessHART data into Modbus TCP over Ethernet and Modbus RTU over RS485. This variant is equipped with steel cable glands. It supports redundant 24V DC power input, built-in network diagnostic function, web server and DTM configuration access. It is widely used in oil & gas, chemical and power plants for wireless pressure, temperature and flow transmitter data collection.

Working principle

The gateway receives measurement and diagnostic data from WirelessHART field transmitters via 2.4 GHz ISM band antenna.

It decodes HART variables, arranges data points into Modbus register mapping, and transmits the data to DCS, PLC or AMS asset management system over Ethernet or RS485. It also executes network scheduling, security key management and path routing for the whole wireless mesh network.

Onboard components

2.4 GHz omnidirectional dipole antenna, wireless RF module, main processing circuit, isolated Ethernet transceiver, RS485 bus circuit, redundant power input terminal, status LED array, steel cable gland housing.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power status, wireless network health, Ethernet link status and fault alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Continuous supervision detects wireless signal loss, field device dropout, communication interruption, supply voltage deviation and internal hardware failure. Fault events are stored in the event log and displayed on the built-in web page.

Programming software

Pepperl+Fuchs PACTware / DTM configuration tool, used for network setup, Modbus register mapping, security key configuration and diagnostic log export.

Installation

Mount the gateway in a sheltered cabinet or field bracket, install the external antenna with clear line of sight to field instruments.

Connect redundant 24V DC power, Ethernet and RS485 cables, then configure wireless network parameters and Modbus mapping via web interface or DTM.

Diagnostic
