Siemens RTU‑8635 RTU Controller Unit

Module Feature

RTU‑8635 is Siemens legacy RTU8635 remote terminal unit with fixed 22‑point I/O configuration. It includes 8 digital inputs, 8 programmable I/O, 4 analog inputs and 2 high‑speed counter channels, equipped with dual serial communication ports. It supports Modbus compatible protocol for SCADA upper computer data exchange, widely used for water treatment, pipeline and distributed remote monitoring systems.

Working principle

The module collects field analog and digital signal, executes local logic processing. It uploads real‑time data to SCADA host via serial port, and receives remote commands to control on‑site output actuators.

Onboard components

Main control CPU circuit, analog signal sampling circuit, digital I/O chip, serial communication interface, status LED, terminal block and plastic housing.

LED indicators

LEDs indicate power supply, communication activity and I/O status.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Detect communication timeout, signal overrange, read diagnostic status through SCADA system or local debugging port.

Programming software

Parameter and logic configuration by dedicated RTU8635 commissioning software.

Installation

Clip on standard DIN rail inside cabinet. Wire field sensor and actuator to I/O terminals, connect serial communication cable to SCADA host, download program configuration.

Interface

Diagnostic

No communication: serial cable fault or wrong baud rate setting. Signal abnormal: sensor wiring error or AI channel damage. Output no action: logic program error or I/O circuit failure.
