Triconex 3503EC Digital Input Module Unit

Module Feature

3503EC is Triconex Tricon series triple redundant digital input module for safety instrument system.

It adopts hardware TMR voting design, each signal channel has three independent signal acquisition circuits to realize fault tolerance. It supports hot-swap replacement without system shutdown. Each channel collects 24VDC discrete signals from field limit switches, pressure switches, relay contacts and breaker auxiliary contacts. It transmits field status to Tricon main processor for safety logic judgment. It is widely used as maintenance spare for petrochemical and oil & gas SIS cabinet.

Working principle

Field discrete dry contact or 24VDC signal is sent to three independent input channels of the module.

Three groups of sampled signals are compared and voted by TMR circuit. Valid signal result is uploaded to main controller via internal tri-bus backplane. If one channel fails, the other two healthy channels still guarantee correct signal output, meeting SIL3 safety integrity requirement. Continuous channel comparison detects internal fault and triggers module fault alarm.

Onboard components

Three sets of DI signal conditioning circuit, TMR voting logic chip, backplane tri-bus transceiver, channel isolation circuit, status LED array, rear field terminal block and bus edge connector.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate module power, RUN status, channel ON/OFF and internal fault alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects channel inconsistency, power abnormality, backplane communication timeout and internal hardware failure. Fault information can be viewed and downloaded by TriStation 1131 software.

Programming software

TriStation 1131, used for channel configuration, signal definition and fault diagnosis.

Installation

Follow hot-swap operation procedure before replacement.

Lock module firmly into rack slot, compare field wiring definition, test channel signal and voting function after installation.

Diagnostic

Module fault alarm: TMR three-leg signal mismatch, backplane bus fault or hardware damage.

Channel no response: Field switch open, wiring break or channel burnout.
