Triconex 8621 Safety Communication Module Unit

Module Feature

8621 is a communication interface module for Triconex Tricon triple modular redundant safety controller.

It is designed for data exchange between Tricon main processor and external host systems or other Tricon racks. It supports hot-swap operation without system shutdown, hardware TMR voting mechanism to meet SIL3 safety requirement. The module transfers safety alarm, interlock status, analog and discrete measurement data to DCS, SCADA or engineering workstation. It also receives command and configuration download from TriStation software. It is a common maintenance spare for legacy Tricon SIS cabinets.

Working principle

The module communicates with the Tricon main CPU via the internal tri-bus backplane.

It receives safety data from three redundant legs, performs voting processing, then packages and transmits data to upper monitoring system. In reverse direction, it receives configuration and maintenance commands and forwards them to the main processor. Continuous hardware comparison is executed between redundant channels to detect internal faults.

Onboard components

Communication processing circuit, TMR voting logic chip, backplane tri-bus transceiver, surge protection components, status LED array, rear terminal and bus edge connector.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power healthy, link active, data transmit/receive and module fault alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects bus interruption, communication timeout, leg mismatch, power supply abnormality and internal hardware failure. Fault information can be checked via TriStation software.

Programming software

TriStation 1131, used for communication port configuration, host address mapping and fault diagnosis.

Installation

Power off the rack or follow hot-swap procedure before inserting the module.

Confirm slot position, lock the fasteners, configure communication parameters and test data transmission after installation.

Diagnostic
