Products Description

VMIC PCI-5565 Reflective Memory Board

Module Feature

VMIC PCI-5565 is a standard full-height PCI form factor reflective memory interface board, compliant with PCI 2.2 specification, supporting 32/64 bit, 33/66 MHz PCI bus operation. It implements 2.12 Gbaud fiber serial link for reflective memory ring network, maximum up to 256 network nodes. Onboard 64 MB /128 MB parity protected SDRAM shared memory, two independent DMA channels for high speed data transfer. Supports automatic hardware data mirroring across all network nodes, with ultra-short node-to-node propagation latency. Built-in cross-node hardware interrupt mechanism for system event synchronization, with configurable byte order conversion for mixed-endian multi-platform systems. Rugged PCB design with EMC/ESD protection, widely used in real-time simulation, aerospace test, distributed motion control and high-reliability industrial control systems.

Working principle

The reflective memory technology creates unified shared memory space over fiber ring network. Once any node writes data to local onboard memory, hardware automatically broadcasts data packets to all nodes in the ring, updating local memory copies instantly. Host CPU accesses shared memory directly just like local RAM, without heavy network protocol stack overhead. Hardware interrupt signals can be transmitted between nodes for trigger and synchronization. Byte swap logic supports seamless data exchange between big-endian and little-endian processors.

Onboard components

Reflective memory controller, 2.12G serial optical transceiver, parity SDRAM memory chips, PCI bus interface chip, dual DMA controller, interrupt FPGA logic, front panel fiber connector, link status LED array, hardware configuration jumpers.

LED indicators

Front panel LED indicators for power supply, optical link ready, transmit activity, receive activity and network fault alarm.

Hardware self-diagnosis

Visual inspection of PCB, edge connector, fiber port and solder joints; board ID register readback and firmware verification; memory read/write parity test; optical link loopback test; multi-node data synchronization test; cross-node interrupt function verification.

Programming software

VMIC reflective memory driver and API library, supporting Windows, VxWorks, Linux, QNX real-time OS; configuration utility for node ID, memory size, interrupt mapping and byte order setup.
