Products Description
VMIC VMIVME-2536 Optically Coupled Digital I/O Board

Module FeatureVMIC VMIVME-2536 is a single-slot 6U VMEbus optically coupled digital input/output board. It integrates 32 isolated digital input channels and 32 open-collector digital output channels, with 1 kV continuous / 3.5 kV pulse withstand isolation between field wiring and VME backplane to eliminate ground loop and transient voltage interference. Input threshold voltage is factory configurable (5 V, 12 V, 24 V, 48 V, 125 V DC options). Software-selectable input debounce timer filters mechanical contact bounce, with time range from 0 ms to 16.384 ms. Each output channel supports up to 300 mA sink current, max 50 V field voltage. Supports A16/A24 VME addressing, 8/16/32 bit data transfer, and onboard Built-In-Test (BIT) function for input/output loopback diagnostic without external field wiring. Rugged Eurocard construction, widely used for discrete sensor, relay and actuator control in turbine control, particle accelerator, aerospace test and heavy industrial automation systems.
Working principleField digital signals pass opto-coupler isolation circuit and then latched to input register for VME master reading. VME host writes logic state to output register to drive opto-coupler and open-collector output transistors. Onboard control register configures debounce timing and BIT mode. In BIT test mode, internal test data replaces external field signal for channel verification, so host can validate I/O hardware integrity without disconnecting field cables. VMEbus slave interface handles address decoding and data handshake. Optical isolation breaks ground potential difference between chassis and field devices.
Onboard componentsOpto-coupler array for 32 input and 32 output channels, input debounce timing logic, BIT control FPGA, VMEbus transceivers, channel status register, front panel field I/O terminal block, status LED indicators, configuration jumpers.
LED indicatorsFront panel LED indicators for board power, VME bus access, input channel active status, output drive status and BIT fault warning.
Hardware self-diagnosisVisual inspection of PCB, front terminal block and solder joints; board ID register readback verification; BIT internal loopback test for each input/output channel; debounce timing validation; VME read/write communication test; isolation resistance measurement.
Programming softwareVMIC VME device driver suite, universal I/O configuration and BIT diagnostic utility, compatible with VxWorks, Linux and Windows embedded real-time operating systems.

InstallationFollow ESD safety procedure before handling. Fully power off VME chassis. Insert VMIVME-2536 into vacant 6U VME slot and lock front panel ejector latches. Wire field sensors and relay actuators to front panel I/O terminal block. Configure input debounce parameters via software. Power on chassis, load VMIC VME driver and execute BIT self-test before commissioning.
InterfaceVME J1/J2 backplane connector, multi-channel field digital I/O terminal block, fault status signal pins.
DiagnosticBoard not detected: poor VME backplane contact, damaged edge connector, insufficient backplane power. Input reading unstable: mechanical contact bounce (debounce timer misconfigured), ground loop interference, opto-coupler aging. Output no drive: open-collector pull-up missing, over-current protection triggered, opto output chip failure. BIT test failure: FPGA logic fault or channel opto device damage.
