ABB ALCL-13-5 Grid Side LCL Filter Unit

Module Feature

ALCL-13-5 is ABB three-phase grid-side LCL filter module. It is specially designed for matching ABB ACS series high-power frequency converters and active front-end units. The LCL topology adopts double inductance plus capacitor combination, which has better harmonic attenuation effect than simple L filter, effectively suppresses high-frequency PWM ripple generated by inverter, reduces grid harmonic pollution and electromagnetic interference. It can meet strict grid access requirements, commonly used in solar converters, wind power converters, large pumping stations and metallurgy drive systems.

Working principle

Grid-side inductor, filter capacitor and inverter-side inductor form LCL resonant filter network. High-frequency harmonic components generated by IGBT PWM modulation are shunted and attenuated by capacitor branch. Fundamental frequency power passes smoothly to the power grid, so as to realize clean grid-connected current waveform and reduce the dv/dt impact on the grid.

LED indicators

No built‑in LED indicators.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

The filter itself has no electronic self-check circuit. The upper inverter detects grid current distortion, overcurrent and over-temperature to judge filter abnormality, capacitor aging or inductor saturation fault.

Programming software

No configuration software. Matching drive parameters are set in ABB DriveStudio.

Installation

Install the filter in the low-voltage cabinet, reserve heat dissipation space. Connect the inverter output side to the filter inverter-side terminal, and the filter grid-side terminal to the AC power grid. Tighten busbar bolts, check insulation resistance before power-on.

Diagnostic

Large grid current ripple:Filter capacitor degradation or loose connection. Overheat alarm:Inductor core saturation, long-term overload operation. Resonance oscillation:Drive control parameters mismatch with LCL filter.
