ABB SPIET800 Ethernet CIU Transfer Module Unit

Module Feature

SPIET800 is an Ethernet CIU transfer gateway module for ABB Symphony Plus distributed control system, successor of IET800 / INIET800.

It provides protocol conversion between the proprietary INFI-NET control bus and standard Ethernet TCP/IP network. It supports connection with S+ Engineering tool, S+ Operations HMI and Harmony OPC server. License key is required separately for full function activation. Conformal coated PCB design is adopted for harsh industrial environments, widely used in thermal power, pulp & paper and chemical process control cabinets.

Working principle

The module receives cyclic process data, alarm messages and controller status from INFI-NET bus.

It repackages and forwards these data to upper-level Ethernet hosts, and transmits operator commands and configuration downloads back to INFI-NET controllers. Internal watchdog and bus monitoring ensure stable data exchange between two different network domains.

Onboard components

Dual Ethernet RJ45 transceivers, INFI-NET backplane interface circuit, main processing chip, status LED array, flash memory for firmware, metal reinforced front panel assembly.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power supply, module run status, INFI-NET bus fault and Ethernet link alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects INFI-NET communication loss, Ethernet link down, firmware error and internal hardware failure. Fault status and event logs can be checked via Symphony Plus engineering software.

Installation

Insert the module into designated rack slot and lock the handle.

Connect INFI-NET backplane connector and dual Ethernet cables, verify link status and data transmission before commissioning.

Diagnostic

No INFI-NET communication: Bent backplane pin, bus termination missing or bus cable damage. Ethernet link unstable: Network cable fault, IP address conflict or switch port abnormality. Function limited: Missing or invalid software license key.
