Eaton MWP616 Magnum DS ACB Unit

Module Feature

MWP616 belongs to Eaton Magnum DS series drawout air circuit breaker.

It adopts 3-pole layout with 1600A frame rating. It can be matched with Digitrip electronic trip unit, supporting LSI selective protection, earth fault protection, power metering and alarm functions. It is equipped with stored-energy spring operating mechanism and mechanical/electrical racking interlock to ensure safe insertion and withdrawal. Optional accessories include motor charging, auxiliary contact set and communication module. It is widely used in power plant auxiliary power cabinets, oil & gas main distribution rooms and large industrial power centres for spare replacement and system upgrade.

Working principle

Built-in current transformers sample three-phase current signals and send data to the Digitrip trip unit.

When the operating current exceeds the preset protection threshold, the trip unit triggers the release mechanism to separate the main contacts and cut off the fault circuit. It stores fault current, fault type and timestamp locally, and supports uploading real-time electrical data to power monitoring system via communication module.

Onboard components

Silver alloy main contact assembly, arc extinguishing chamber, spring operating mechanism, CT group, Digitrip electronic trip unit, drawout carriage, racking interlock assembly, auxiliary contact block, status LED array and optional communication board.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power supply status, spring charged state, fault trip alarm and communication link health.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects trip unit power loss, CT circuit failure, internal over-temperature and communication interruption. Fault information and event logs can be viewed on local display or Eaton Power Xpert commissioning software.

Programming software

Eaton Power Xpert Commissioning Tool, used for protection curve setting, metering configuration, communication parameter setup and fault record analysis.

Installation

Install the breaker into matched Magnum DS drawout chassis. Check primary bus terminal torque, test racking interlock, spring charging and protection trip function before energizing.

Diagnostic

Unexpected tripping: Improper protection setting, CT wiring error or transient interference. Refusal to close: Discharged spring, control power missing or interlock locked. Communication offline: Damaged cable or inconsistent network configuration.
