System compatibility

25GBASE-LR SFP28 transceivers are original Extreme Networks optical modules. Compatible with Extreme hardware equipped with SFP28 ports, such as SLX9850, X870 series routers and switches. Pre-programmed EEPROM ensures proper identification by ExtremeXOS and SLX-OS operating systems. Can be applied on breakout ports split from QSFP28 interfaces.

Function

25GBASE-LR is the long-reach physical layer standard for 25G Ethernet. The SFP28 transceiver converts 25G electrical NRZ signal into optical signal for transmission over single-mode fiber. It supports stable 25G links up to 10km, commonly used in leaf-spine data center architecture, HPC and enterprise core network for medium-long distance fiber interconnection. Low power design minimizes heat buildup on high-density switch line cards.

Installation

Insert SFP28 module into the SFP28 port until the latch clicks and locks. Connect duplex LC single-mode fiber patch cord. Verify module recognition and optical power status via SLX-OS or ExtremeXOS CLI. Keep fiber end faces clean and confirm correct fiber polarity.
