Products Description

Honeywell TAM-242 Satellite Tracking Modem Unit

Module Feature

TAM-242 is Honeywell compact satellite telemetry terminal built on Inmarsat IsatData Pro service, integrated with GPS receiver for global positioning. It provides two-way low-bandwidth satellite messaging for status reports, alarm uploads and remote commands in areas without cellular coverage. The radio operates in 1626.5–1660.5 MHz L-band with EIRP 0–9 dBW. The sealed metal housing meets IP66 ingress protection, suitable for offshore, remote pipeline, rail container and isolated field sites. It supports up to 50 message channels, local RS232 asynchronous serial port at 9600 baud N-8-1 for connection with sensors, PLC or data logger. Low power design supports battery solar-powered unattended deployments.

Working principle

The internal GNSS receiver acquires satellite fixes to get geographic coordinates. The embedded controller packs position, sensor readings and status data into IsatData Pro messages. The L-band transceiver transmits packets to the Inmarsat satellite constellation; messages are routed to the cloud backend. Downstream commands and configuration updates are received from satellite and passed to local equipment over RS232.

Onboard components

L-band Inmarsat transceiver module, GNSS GPS receiver, baseband processing PCB, RS232 interface circuit, power regulation and surge protection, internal memory for message queue, sealed metal enclosure, external antenna connectors.

LED indicators

Front status LEDs for power, GNSS fix, satellite registration, transmit activity and fault alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Self-diagnosis covers GNSS signal loss, antenna open/short, satellite registration failure, supply undervoltage/overvoltage, internal communication bus error and message transmission timeout. Event and fault logs are stored locally.

Programming software

Host configuration software for message schedules, reporting intervals, alarm triggers and remote firmware upgrade; backend portal for tracking visualization and data export.
