Honeywell USI-0001 Safety Interface Unit

Module Feature

USI-0001 is Honeywell Safety Manager series universal safety interface module. It is designed to interface non-safety field devices and standard signal types into the Honeywell SIS safety controller. It supports discrete contact inputs, 4-20mA analog signals and pulse signals conversion, provides galvanic isolation between non-safety side and safety backplane bus. Continuous channel diagnostics, fault reporting and de-energize-to-trip logic support. Rack slot mounting design, works together with Safety Manager chassis and safety CPU modules. Widely used in petrochemical, refining and oil & gas SIS cabinets for ESD and safety shutdown interlock.

Working principle

Field non-safety signals are conditioned and isolated by the USI-0001 module. The module validates signal integrity and transmits qualified signal data to safety controller via safety backplane bus. It continuously monitors wiring open, short and signal out-of-range faults and sends fault alerts to the SIS host. When safety trip command is received, it drives matched field output circuits according to configured safety logic.

Installation

Cut off safety chassis power before operation. Insert Honeywell USI-0001 module into matched backplane slot and lock the latch. Wire field signal cables to terminal assembly. Download safety configuration and complete channel function test before commissioning.

Diagnostic

Module fault alarm: backplane poor contact or internal circuit failure. Signal invalid alarm: field wiring open/short or sensor failure. Communication loss: backplane bus fault or controller sync lost.
