Red Lion RM100-EM-8TX Ethernet Expansion Module

Module Feature

RM100-EM-8TX belongs to Red Lion RM100 rack system ethernet expansion module. It provides 8 channels of 10/100BASE-TX copper ethernet interface with RJ45 connector. Hot-swappable structure allows replacement without powering down the whole rack. Each ethernet channel has electrical isolation protection to suppress industrial site electromagnetic interference. Supports TCP/IP, Modbus TCP and other common industrial network protocols, can connect PLC, RTU, HMI and various field instruments. Metal module shell adapts to harsh industrial workshop environment for continuous stable data transmission.

Working principle

The module is inserted into RM100 chassis slot and communicates with backplane bus. It receives and forwards network data packets through 8 RJ45 ports, realizes multi-node network expansion. Isolation circuit isolates field side surge and interference to protect internal mainboard. It performs data exchange between backplane bus and external ethernet field network.

Onboard components

Main control PCB, RJ45 port group, network isolation circuit, backplane connector, status LED indicator, surge protection circuit, power regulation chip.

LED indicators

Power LED, Link/Activity LED for each ethernet port.

Hardware self-diagnosis

Port link fault, overvoltage, undervoltage, over temperature, ESD surge detection, record port communication error statistics.

Programming software

Red Lion Crimson software for network parameter configuration, port monitoring and firmware update.

Installation

Follow ESD protection procedure before operation. Insert module into empty RM100 chassis slot and lock the latch firmly. Connect twisted pair network cable to RJ45 ports. Complete network IP address configuration via Crimson software before commissioning.

RJ45 ethernet ports, RM100 backplane bus connector, configuration access interface.

Diagnostic

No port link: cable damage, wrong wiring or port disabled. Intermittent communication: ground loop interference or insufficient cable shielding. Module power fault: backplane power supply abnormality or poor contact of module connector.
