Triconex 4351B Digital Output Module Unit

Module Feature

4351B is Triconex Tricon triple modular redundant digital output module for safety instrumented system.

It adopts TMR voting architecture to achieve SIL3 safety integrity level. It provides 16 independent digital output channels, rated 48V DC, each channel with short-circuit and open-circuit diagnostic. It supports hot swap under power-on condition without stopping the whole rack. It communicates with main processor board via internal Tricon backplane bus. It is widely used for emergency shutdown, fire & gas protection and safety interlock control in petrochemical, refinery and power plant safety cabinet. This legacy Tricon series is commonly stocked as critical maintenance spare.

Working principle

Three independent internal logic channels sample and calculate the safety command from main controller.

2-out-of-3 voting logic decides final output state to eliminate single point failure risk. When safe trip command is received, the module de-energizes output contacts to trigger field solenoid valves or relay interlock. Continuous channel diagnostics detect wire break, short circuit and internal hardware fault; fault information is sent back to Tricon host and HMI for alarm display.

Onboard components

Three redundant logic boards, output drive circuit, channel diagnostic comparator, backplane connector, status LED bank, metal shielding housing and terminal interface.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate module RUN, OK status, channel fault, internal fault and communication loss.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in continuous supervision for each output channel open/short, internal power supply, backplane communication and TMR voting inconsistency. Configuration and fault diagnosis are completed by TriStation software.

Programming software

TriStation, used for safety logic programming, channel configuration, fault log reading and firmware download.

Installation

Power off safety rack before replacement.

Align module with Tricon rack slot, lock backplane connector, confirm field wiring of each DO channel, download safety program and test channel action & fault diagnostic function after commissioning.

Interface

Internal backplane bus connector, field wiring terminal block for 16-channel digital output.

Diagnostic

Channel fault alarm: Field wire open, short circuit or solenoid coil damage. Module fail alarm: Internal voting mismatch, backplane communication loss or power fault. No output on trip: Logic program error, channel forced state or output circuit burnout.
