Products Description

VMIC VMIPCI-5565-11 0000 Reflective Memory Board

Module Feature

VMIPCI-5565-11 0000 is a standard PCI bus fiber-optic reflective memory node board developed by VMIC (GE Fanuc / Abaco Systems). It belongs to classic 5565 reflective memory family, compatible with VMIVME-5565 and other RFM modules to build cross-platform mixed VME/PCI multi-node real-time network. Equipped with 128 MB onboard SDRAM with optional parity check function. The fiber communication speed reaches 2.12 Gbaud, effective payload bandwidth ranges from 43 MB/s for short packets up to 174 MB/s for 64-byte burst packets. Network supports ring topology or star topology with external hub, maximum 256 independent nodes on one reflective memory network. Any write operation to local onboard memory will be automatically broadcasted to all other nodes on the fiber ring via hardware without CPU software stack overhead. It supports programmable inter-node mailbox interrupt, one node can trigger event notification to a single target node or broadcast interrupt to all nodes. The board uses LC multimode fiber connector for optical signal transmission, providing complete galvanic isolation between different racks to eliminate ground potential shift and EMI interference. Built-in BIT diagnostic continuously monitors fiber link status,SDRAM integrity and parity error events;fault information can be read from onboard status registers. Rugged PCB with conformal coating, shock and vibration screened for harsh industrial environments, widely used in gas/steam turbine distributed control network, aerospace multi-chassis hardware-in-loop simulation and defense ground test bench.

Working principle

When PCI host writes data into local reflective memory space, onboard RFM FPGA automatically captures memory write events and broadcasts data packets over fiber optical transceiver to all nodes in the ring network. Every remote node receives optical data and synchronously updates its local SDRAM copy, application software directly accesses local memory for data reading, without complex network protocol processing. Mailbox interrupt registers transmit event trigger signals over fiber for multi-node task synchronization and alarm notification. BIT circuit continuously detects optical signal power, memory read/write errors and parity faults, and records error events inside status registers for host software polling. Optical transceiver converts electrical signals to optical signals and provides galvanic isolation to block common-mode surge noise between different chassis.
