Woodward IC-92X Ignition Controller Unit

Module Feature

IC-92X belongs to Woodward IC-92 series capacitive discharge ignition controller, commonly matched with GE Jenbacher gas engine.

It adopts 16-bit main processor, receives crankshaft, camshaft speed and position sensor signals, realizes independent cylinder ignition timing control. Spark energy can be programmed and adjusted, supports 4-20mA, 0-5V or CAN J1939 timing signal input, equipped with ServLink RS232 debugging interface. It has built-in overspeed protection, misfire detection and ignition circuit diagnosis function, supports up to 24 ignition coil outputs, suitable for lean-burn gas generator and gas compressor units.

Working principle

After the controller obtains crank and cam shaft position signals, it calculates the ignition advance angle according to engine speed and external control signal.

The internal capacitor discharge circuit releases high-energy pulse to the ignition coil at the set timing point to drive spark plug ignition. It continuously monitors the feedback signal of each ignition loop, and triggers alarm or shutdown protection when misfire, coil open circuit or overspeed fault occurs.

Onboard components

Main CPU board, high voltage capacitor discharge circuit, signal conditioning board, speed sensor input terminal, ignition drive output terminal, ServLink communication interface, power protection circuit, status indicator panel.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power supply, ignition running, flame detection, fault alarm and overspeed status.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects sensor signal loss, ignition coil open/short circuit, misfire, over-temperature and overspeed. Fault codes can be read through ServLink configuration software.

Installation

Install away from high-voltage ignition cable and strong electromagnetic interference source.

Connect 24VDC power, crank/cam sensor wiring and ignition coil output cables, finish engine cylinder mapping and timing parameter setting before commissioning.

Interface

24VDC power terminal, speed sensor input port, ignition coil drive output terminal, ServLink RS232 debugging port, CAN J1939 communication terminal, alarm relay output.

Diagnostic

No spark output: Sensor signal missing, controller power loss or internal discharge circuit damage. Continuous misfire alarm: Spark plug aging, ignition coil breakdown or timing parameter offset. Overspeed trip: Speed sensor failure or speed threshold setting error.
