Module Feature

1MRK004810-DC is a configured variant of ABB Relion RED670 high-performance differential protection IED. It adopts percentage restrained differential principle, equipped with 2nd and 5th harmonic blocking logic to avoid mal-operation caused by transformer inrush current and over-excitation. It integrates backup protection including phase overcurrent, earth fault, over/under voltage, breaker failure protection, local control and switching function. It has built-in disturbance recorder and event sequence recording, dual Ethernet ports for IEC61850 MMS/GOOSE, and optional RS485 Modbus/DNP3 communication. It is widely used in power plants, industrial substations and oil & gas power systems for transformer and generator main protection.

Working principle

The IED collects CT current signals from both sides of protected equipment. It calculates differential and restraining current to judge internal fault. Once an internal fault is detected, it sends trip command to breaker release. It records fault waveform, fault type and time stamp, and uploads real-time measurement, alarm and status data to SCADA system.

Onboard components

AC sampling board, main CPU board, dual Ethernet communication module, binary input/output matrix, local LCD & keypad HMI, auxiliary power supply circuit, status indicator LEDs.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate running status, fault trip flag, optical/ethernet channel fault and supply power alarm.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Built-in supervision detects CT open circuit, VT fuse loss, communication channel interruption, internal over-temperature and hardware error. Fault information and disturbance records can be checked on local display or PCM600 commissioning software.

Installation

Install the IED in protection panel, connect CT/VT secondary wiring, auxiliary power and communication cable. Check CT polarity, differential stability and GOOSE interlock function before energizing.

Diagnostic

Differential unstable: CT polarity reversed, mismatched CT ratio or communication time delay deviation. Channel dropout: Network cable damage, optical module fault or inconsistent IEC61850 parameters. Spurious trip: Incorrect protection setting or inrush blocking failure.
