Module Feature

3BSE074059R1 is the part number of ABB DOS880 high integrity digital output module under Select I/O family, compatible with ABB Ability System 800xA DCS platform.

It provides one 24V DC, 0.6A current-sourcing output channel for 2-wire field safety devices. It is certified to IEC61508 SIL3, suitable for safety instrumented system control loops. It supports hot-swap replacement, channel short-circuit protection with electronic current limiting, built-in freewheeling diode for inductive load suppression. Galvanic isolation is adopted to improve anti-interference capability. It can be configured for redundant application, and is widely stocked as maintenance spare for petrochemical, power plant and oil & gas SIS safety cabinet.

Working principle

The module receives safety command from the 800xA controller via Select I/O Ethernet bus.

When output is activated, the channel outputs 24V DC driving current to energize field solenoid valve, trip relay or other 2-wire safety equipment. Continuous loop diagnosis detects short circuit, overload and wiring fault, and uploads diagnostic information to the controller and HMI. If a dangerous fault is detected, the module will go to safe state automatically.

Bus communication transceiver, safety logic CPU, galvanic isolation circuit, current limiting drive circuit, inductive load suppression diode, fault diagnosis circuit, status LED indicators, terminal block and coated PCB.

Trouble alarm: output short circuit, overload, wiring fault. No action response: bus offline, safety logic interlock blocked, module hardware failure. Offline fault: communication loss, backplane contact poor.
