System compatibility

100BASE-FX transceivers are compatible with many managed/unmanaged switches with SFP slots. Suitable for Extreme, Hirschmann, Moxa, Phoenix Contact and other industrial / legacy campus switches. Note: 100BASE-FX cannot negotiate to gigabit speed; it is fixed 100M fast ethernet.

Function

100BASE-FX is fast ethernet fiber physical layer specification. It transmits 100Mbps data over optical fiber, isolates electrical surge and ground loop interference. Widely used in factory automation, old campus network, building interconnection. Fiber medium extends transmission distance far beyond copper cable and resists EMI noise.

Installation

Insert 100BASE-FX SFP transceiver into switch SFP port. Connect duplex multimode fiber to transceiver. Verify link status on switch. Use full-duplex mode for maximum 2km reach. Keep fiber clean and check polarity.

DiagnosticNo link: Check fiber polarity, clean fiber end face, confirm matching 100BASE-FX module on both ends. Link flapping: Inspect fiber bending radius, avoid sharp bend; check duplex negotiation setting. Short distance only: Half-duplex mode limited to 412m, switch port must set full duplex for 2km. High bit error: Check fiber attenuation, replace dirty or damaged fiber patch cord.
