System compatibility

BR-SLX9850-MM works for SLX9850-4 (4-slot) and SLX9850-8 (8-slot) modular routing chassis. It controls BR-SLX9850 series line cards, SFM fabric modules, power supplies and fan assemblies. Dual MM can be installed for HA redundancy. Note: 16GB older MM only supports SLX-OS up to 18r.2.00; new 32GB MM supports later SLX-OS releases.

Function

BR-SLX9850-MM is the central control brain for SLX9850 router chassis. It hosts SLX-OS operating system, executes routing control plane, manages all hardware FRUs, stores system configuration, logs and firmware images. In dual-MM setup, standby MM automatically takes over control if active MM fails to avoid core network outage. It provides console and OOB management access for remote configuration and troubleshooting.

Installation

Power on SLX9850 chassis, insert BR-SLX9850-MM into dedicated management slot, push fully and tighten captive screws. Connect OOB Ethernet cable and serial console cable. Chassis will recognize the management module automatically. For HA deployment, install a second MM as standby. Verify active/standby role and FRU inventory via SLX-OS CLI.
