System compatibility

40GBASE-SR4 QSFP+ modules work on Extreme hardware with QSFP+ ports: Summit X670V, SLX9850, SLX9000 series. EEPROM pre-programmed for Extreme device recognition. It supports breakout function, can split 40G port into four independent 10GBASE-SR ports to connect SFP+ 10G SR transceivers via MPO-to-LC breakout fiber.

Function

40GBASE-SR4 is parallel multimode fiber transceiver for short-reach 40G data center interconnection. It uses four transmit and four receive fiber lanes simultaneously to carry total 40G bandwidth. The breakout capability allows one QSFP+ port to connect four 10G servers/downstream switches, saving port resources. Ideal for rack-to-rack short links inside data center.

Installation

Insert QSFP+ module into QSFP+ port until latch locks. Connect MPO/MTP 12-fiber multimode ribbon cable. Verify module recognition and link status via ExtremeXOS / SLX-OS CLI. Enable breakout mode if 4×10G ports are required. Keep fiber end faces clean, maintain minimum fiber bend radius.
