System compatibility

5520-VIM is dedicated expansion module for all Extreme 5520 series switches, each 5520 chassis carries one VIM slot. Compatible models include 5520-48W,5520-12MW-36W,5520-48T and other 5520 platforms. Works with Extreme certified SFP+, SFP28 transceivers and DAC cables. Supports uplink and inter-switch stacking, MACsec encryption available on 4XE and 4YE versions.

Function

5520-VIM is optional high-speed expansion card for 5520 universal edge switches, used to add extra uplink or stacking ports. Users can select different VIM variants according to bandwidth requirement: 10G SFP+ for medium speed uplink or 25G SFP28 for higher bandwidth aggregation. MACsec enabled models provide hardware layer 2 encryption for secure data transmission. It expands network uplink capacity, flexible for enterprise wiring closet, campus aggregation and data center edge interconnection.

Installation

Power on 5520 switch. Use ESD protection, slide VIM module fully into VIM slot, tighten retaining screws. Insert SFP/SFP28 transceiver or DAC cable. Verify module identification and port status via ExtremeXOS CLI, configure port speed, stacking or MACsec policy as needed.
