System compatibility

5720-48MW belongs to Extreme 5720 universal edge/aggregation switch series. It can stack with compatible 5720 series devices. Compatible with Extreme certified QSFP28 transceivers, DAC/AOC cables and 5720 series VIM modules. Supports Layer2 switching and full Layer3 routing, hardware MACsec encryption. Ideal for Wi-Fi 6/7 high density AP, PTZ IP camera and multi-gig terminal access deployment.

Function

5720-48MW is high-performance multi-gigabit PoE++ universal switch for modern enterprise and campus networks. 48 multi-gig ports support auto negotiation up to 5G speed and deliver up to 90W PoE++ power for high-power wireless APs and high-end IP cameras. Two built-in QSFP28 ports support high-speed stacking or uplink. The front VIM slot can be fitted with VIM expansion module to add extra 25G/100G uplink ports. Full-port MACsec provides hardware link layer encryption for secure data transmission. It supports VLAN, MSTP/RSTP, 802.1X authentication, LLDP, hardware ACL and multi-level QoS scheduling. Widely used for large campus, hospital, stadium and high-density office wireless access aggregation.

Installation

Mount the switch into standard 19-inch rack. Install hot-swappable power supplies and fan modules, connect AC power cords. Use console port for initial CLI configuration. Insert QSFP28 transceivers / DAC cables and VIM module if required. Configure stacking group, PoE power priority allocation, VLAN and MACsec security policies. Verify port link status, PoE output and stack health after power on.

QSFP28 port link down: Check transceiver compatibility, fiber cleanliness and DDM optical power readings. VIM module undetected: Confirm fully seated VIM card and compatible firmware version. MACsec negotiation fail: Ensure matching security key configured on peer network device. Stacking abnormal: Confirm consistent firmware version for all stack members and stacking cable integrity.
