Function

DS1404066-E5GS is combined switch fabric and main control processor module for ERS8600 enterprise core chassis. It serves as the central switching backplane and system brain of the chassis, responsible for route calculation, configuration management and cross-card data forwarding. The built-in SuperMezz daughterboard enables IPv6 protocol and ultra-fast sub-100ms failover. Dual redundant fabric/CPU cards can be deployed in one chassis to eliminate single point of failure. Hot-swappable design allows replacement without powering down the whole chassis. Widely used for large campus core network, enterprise aggregation chassis control and fabric redundancy upgrade.

InstallationFollow ESD protection procedure. Insert fabric CPU module into empty ERS8600 chassis slot and tighten captive retaining screws. Verify module recognition via console port. Upload matching firmware version, synchronize configuration between primary and standby fabric modules. Test failover function after installation.
