System compatibility

VIM3-40G4X is dedicated VIM expansion module for Summit X480 and X650 series. All ports compatible with Extreme QSFP+ transceivers and QSFP+ DAC fanout cables. Supports SummitStack-V80 / SummitStack-V160 virtual stacking. All stack members must run matching ExtremeXOS firmware version. Ports can be used for regular uplink or stacking links.

Function

VIM3-40G4X is rear high-speed expansion module for Summit X480/X650 switches. It adds four QSFP+ 40G ports to host switch. Each QSFP+ port can run native 40G for high bandwidth uplink to core, or split into four independent 10G ports with fanout cable for more 10G interfaces. Ports can be configured as SummitStack-V stacking links to combine multiple physical switches into one logical device. Widely used for campus core uplink, data center aggregation and high-speed stacking cluster expansion.

Installation

Power off the Summit host switch. Wear ESD anti-static wrist strap, remove blank panel from rear VIM slot. Insert VIM3-40G4X module firmly and tighten captive screws. Power on switch, verify module recognition via ExtremeXOS CLI. Insert QSFP+ transceivers or fanout cables, configure port speed / breakout and SummitStack-V stacking mode as required.
