Module Feature

P0973JM is a layer 2 managed industrial Ethernet switch for Foxboro I/A distributed control system. It has 24 copper 10/100Mbps RJ45 ports, two fixed gigabit stacking uplink ports and two SFP gigabit fiber uplink slots. It supports Rapid Spanning Tree RSTP, port mirroring, VLAN and port fault alarm. Redundant power supply is optional, designed for high availability DCS control network, isolates and forwards real-time process communication traffic. Widely stocked as spare for petrochemical, power station and paper mill I/A control cabinet network.

Working principle

The switch receives Ethernet frames from controllers, workstations and field control nodes. It performs MAC address learning and frame forwarding, RSTP prevents network loop for redundant topology. It monitors port link status and sends fault alarm to DCS system when cable disconnection occurs. Priority queue ensures control real-time data transmission with low latency.

Onboard components

Ethernet switching chip, 24-channel PHY transceiver, SFP fiber slots, power regulation circuit, status monitoring logic, cooling fan and 19-inch metal rack housing.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power, link/activity per port, stack status, fault and redundancy status.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

Unit monitors port link status, power supply, temperature and SFP module presence. Network parameters including VLAN, RSTP and port speed can be configured.

Programming software

Foxboro network configuration tool / Enterasys switch management software, used for VLAN setup, redundancy topology configuration and fault log review.

Installation

Cut off power supply before replacement. Mount switch into 19-inch rack, connect control network RJ45 cables and uplink fiber modules if used, configure VLAN and spanning tree parameters, test redundant link and port fault alarm function after commissioning.
