Products Description
Meritor 801000-3 U-Joint Cross Spider Unit

Module Feature
801000-3 is Meritor heavy-duty drive shaft universal joint cross (spider). It is manufactured from high-strength alloy steel and undergoes precision quenching and tempering heat treatment to achieve excellent wear resistance and impact load capacity.
This version is grease serviceable, with internal grease passages for regular lubrication maintenance. It works together with needle roller bearings and bearing cups to transmit torque between misaligned drive shaft sections. Suitable for frequent vibration and heavy cyclic load conditions of highway trucks, buses and off-road construction vehicles.
Working principle
The four journal shafts of the cross body fit into needle bearing assemblies installed on yokes. When the drive shaft rotates, the universal joint cross transfers torque while allowing a small angular offset between the input and output shafts.
Lubricating grease reduces friction between journal surface and needle rollers to prevent overheating and seizure. If lubrication fails, surface wear and pitting will occur rapidly, eventually leading to driveline failure.
Onboard components
Alloy steel cross spider body, grease fitting port, internal grease channels, four polished bearing journals. Needle bearings and bearing cups are sold separately as matched kits.
LED indicators
No built-in indicator lamp.
Hardware self‑diagnosis
No electronic self-diagnosis. Inspection relies on manual check for backlash, noise, grease leakage and surface pitting.
Programming software
Not applicable, purely mechanical power transmission component.
Electrical & Process Parameters
Model:801000-3 Brand:Meritor Device type:Universal Joint Cross (Spider) Material:Heat treated alloy steel Lubrication:Greaseable Function:Torque transmission for vehicle drive shaft with angular compensation
Mechanical & Structure
Mounting:Installed inside drive shaft yoke with needle bearing cups Protection class:Grease sealed assembly Housing:Alloy steel forged cross body
Environmental
Operating temperature:-40℃ ~ +120℃ Storage temperature:-40℃ ~ +85℃ Ambient humidity:5~95% non‑condensing Certification:OEM Meritor driveline standard compliant Status:Meritor original driveline spare
Installation
Clean yoke bores and cross journals before assembly. Fit needle bearing cups into yoke ears and press the cross journals into bearings.
Install snap rings to lock bearing cups, then inject high-temperature lithium grease through grease nipple until fresh grease extrudes from bearing clearances. Test for free rotation without binding after installation.
Interface
Four cylindrical journal surfaces for needle roller bearing fit, grease zerk fitting.
Diagnostic
Abnormal driveline knocking: Cross journal surface pitting, bearing roller damage or insufficient grease.
Driveline vibration: Cross seizure, excessive clearance or uneven wear.
Grease leakage: Damaged bearing seal, over-greasing or cracked bearing cup.
