Module Feature

150-F361NBDB is an open-frame solid-state soft starter of Rockwell Allen‑Bradley SMC‑Flex series.

It is specially configured with pump control firmware to eliminate water hammer during start and stop. Rated 361A, suitable for 150~300Hp 460VAC motors. It supports multiple starting modes, current limit, kick start and adjustable soft stop ramp. Integrated motor overload, phase loss, phase imbalance and SCR fault detection. It has digital I/O and Modbus communication for PLC and SCADA integration. Widely stocked as spare for water supply, wastewater treatment, HVAC and irrigation pump control cabinets.

Working principle

The unit uses SCR thyristor stacks to control AC voltage applied to the motor.

It gradually raises terminal voltage to achieve soft start and reduces voltage smoothly for soft stop. Pump-specific algorithm suppresses fluid pressure surge. The control board continuously samples three-phase current, calculates motor load condition and triggers relay alarm/trip when fault thresholds are exceeded. Operating data and fault codes can be uploaded over serial communication.

Onboard components

Three-phase SCR power stack, current sampling circuit, main control processor, pump control firmware, trigger drive circuit, status display panel, cooling fan, auxiliary relay contacts and metal open chassis.

LED indicators

Front LEDs indicate power, run, fault, alarm and communication status.

Hardware self‑diagnosis

The starter monitors SCR status, output current, motor overload, phase health and internal temperature. All ramp times, limits and protection setpoints are configurable on local keypad.

Programming software

Connected Components Workbench, used for parameter setup, pump curve tuning, fault log review and firmware upgrade.

Installation

Cut off three-phase main power before replacement.

Secure unit on cabinet backplate, connect three-phase input, motor load wiring and 100-240V control supply, wire digital I/O and Modbus communication if required, set motor nameplate data and pump ramp parameters, verify soft start, soft stop and alarm relay output after commissioning.

Interface

Diagnostic

Motor overload: Pump jammed or parameter current setting too low. Phase fault: Power cable open/short circuit or loose terminal. Water hammer still present: Stop ramp time too short or pump profile misconfigured.
