Products Description
BAUR shirla Cable Fault Location System Unit

Module Feature
shirla is a portable all-in-one cable test instrument developed by BAUR from Austria. It combines cable sheath withstand test, insulation resistance measurement, bridge-type fault pre-location and pulse pinpointing in one compact case. It adopts automatic Murray and Glaser bridge algorithms optimized for power, control and lighting cables. Users can input cable length, conductor cross-section and material to improve distance calculation accuracy. It supports both mains power and internal battery operation for field work. Touchscreen guided workflow simplifies operation, test logs and reports can be exported via USB. Widely used by power utilities, electrical contractors and maintenance teams for underground distribution cable troubleshooting.
Working principle
For sheath testing: controlled high voltage is applied to cable metal sheath, the instrument monitors leakage current to detect sheath damage. For pre-location: the bridge circuit measures resistance difference from the test end to the fault point and calculates fault distance. For pinpointing: high voltage pulse is injected, the acoustic signal generated at fault spot is tracked to find the exact position. All measurement data is processed and stored by internal controller.
Onboard components
HV test power unit, precision measuring bridge, pulse discharge circuit, touchscreen control unit, rechargeable lithium battery pack, safety interlock circuit, USB data port, test lead terminals.
LED indicators
Status LEDs show power ready, high voltage active, battery level and system fault.
Hardware self‑diagnosis
Continuous self-check covers overvoltage, overcurrent, interlock open, battery low, internal hardware error and measurement signal anomaly.
Programming software
Built-in touch interface for on-site operation; PC report tool for data review and archiving.

Installation
Place unit on stable ground, connect protective earth first, then attach test leads to de-energized cable. Set cable parameters, select sheath test or fault location mode. Follow high voltage safety rules. Export test report after measurement. Check battery charge before outdoor field tests.
Interface
HV test terminal, earth terminal, signal measurement terminals, USB port, touch screen interface.
Diagnostic
HV cannot energize: Safety interlock open, earth connection missing, battery empty. Pre-location reading unstable: Bad test contact, cable joint resistance interference, multiple faults on same cable. Pinpoint no sound: Fault resistance too high, insufficient pulse energy. Battery fast drain: Aging battery cell, high voltage test running continuously.
Product BriefBAUR shirla portable cable fault location system, 10kV sheath test capability, bridge pre-location and acoustic pinpoint, for underground medium voltage power cable maintenance.
